Brasilia – The leader of the Brazilian truck drivers who blocked routes and threatened to invade the Supreme Federal Court (STF) in support of the far-right president Jair Bolsonaro affirmed yesterday that he had requested asylum in Mexico, claiming to be a “politically persecuted person”. Zé Trovao sent the media a copy of what would be his asylum request presented to the Mexican authorities, where he fled to prevent the Federal Police from fulfilling an arrest warrant issued against him by the STF. The fugitive was one of those who organized the caravans that headed to Brasilia on September 7 to participate in the rally where Bolsonaro stated that he was not going to abide by the Supreme Court’s rulings.
